About the Pledge for Peace

Who is behind the Pledge for Peace?

The Pledge for Peace has grown out of the diverse coalition of Christian peace organizations who formed the Christian Peace Witness for Iraq.
CPWI's goal is to create an authentically Christian, positive, bold and unapologetic message for peace. We support a clear strategy to end the occupation of Iraq and to develop a genuine peace founded on the hard work of building right relationships with one another.

The ongoing work and maintenance of the Pledge will be carried out by the Presbyterian Peace Fellowship, who can be contacted at ppfwitness@gmail.com.

Who should sign the Pledge?

We are looking for self-identified leaders and opinion shapers in our congregations and at all levels of our churches. We invite lay leaders, elders, deacons, Christian educators, youth leaders, pastors, priests, and leaders in our judicatories and governing bodies to sign this personal commitment to stand with the Prince of Peace in a time of fear.

What will happen with my name and information?

We would like to have your name, church affiliation and position, phone number and email address. You will be added to a database of all signers, and you will receive occasional updates from the Pledge organizers. Your name (only) will be shared with other religious leaders and elected representatives, and it will be displayed on this site as a public statement of your commitment.

What is expected of me if I sign the Pledge?

We ask that you take seriously the commitments of the Pledge. As the number of signers grows, we may be able to expand our website to share stories, ideas and concerns with one another.

Why Christian?

We have drawn heavily upon Christian scripture and traditions to make clear our motivation in signing the Pledge. We invite those of other traditions to use this document as a help in developing Pledges grounded in their own faith.
